The album contains 80 photographs of an exhibition, "New England Begins: The Seventeenth Century," held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Ma., from May 5 to August 22, 1982. The exhibit was designed to be a survey of New England culture divided into three major divisions: migration and settlement, mentality and environment, and style. The photographs of the installation of the objects used by New Englanders feature such items as clothing, pottery, kitchen ware, maps, textiles, religious documents, furniture, graves, and paintings. The text in the exhibit cases is also shown in the photographs.

Daniel Farber was a business executive, civic leader, philanthropist, and a renowned photographer from Worcester, Massachusetts. His parents were Rose Barksy and Louis Farber. He married twice, to Juanita Dill and Jessie Lie, and had two sons. He was an executive in a business founded by his father, L. Farber Co., which supplied shoe insoles and leather shoe welting.
